Chippa United have made a significant move by appointing Brandon Truter as their new head coach, just in time for their final Betway Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs in Durban on Saturday, 23 May. This appointment was confirmed by Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpengesi, as the club aims to end the season on a positive note.
According to the SABC, Truter takes charge with Chippa United sitting 13th on the Betway Premiership table with 25 points, following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Golden Arrows at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last weekend. Chippa United are still in danger of slipping into the promotion/relegation playoffs, should they lose to Kaizer Chiefs and other results do not go in their favour.
In such a scenario, Truter would then have six more matches to guide the club to safety in a mini-league involving Cape Town City FC and Milford FC. Kruger United have already secured automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership after winning the second tier with several matches to spare.
The former Swallows FC and AmaZulu FC mentor was introduced to the players on Monday as preparations began for the weekend fixture. Truter faces an immediate challenge as he looks to revive confidence in the squad. The Chilli Boyz have endured another turbulent season, with inconsistency leaving them in the bottom half of the table.
Truter’s first assignment could hardly be tougher, as Chippa United are set to face Kaizer Chiefs in a high-profile clash. Amakhosi continue their push for a strong finish to the season. For Truter, the match presents an early opportunity to make an impression and inject fresh momentum into the side.
His appointment also marks yet another coaching change at Chippa United, a club long known for managerial turnover as it searches for consistency and long-term stability. Kick-off at the Moses Mabhida Stadium is set for 15:00.
