AKA Reacts After His Third Nomination for The BET Awards 2020

AKA’s twitter posts attracted controversial opinions. Some followers and artists considered it an act of bragging. For example, one follower cautioned AKA to stop bragging because he never won the award. He attended the BET awards just for the food, the poster remarked.

Some critics noted that the BET awards were not about talent, but nepotism in the music industry. The poster noted that organizers of the BET awards mistake Nigeria for Africa. They have a habit of nominating Nigerian artists who are signed to American Music labels or those who collaborate with U.S artists.

In spite of the varied opinions, most fans congratulated AKA for his third nomination. They took it as a sign that the rapper is good. A recent BET news report that Sha Sha the Amapiano vocalist, won her inaugural BET award for the Viewer’s Choice International Act.

Sha Sha is a Zimbabwean songstress, signed to DJ Maphorisa’s record label. The singer thanked her fans at home and abroad for the award. Burna Boy, the Nigerian-born artist, became the first African to clinch the BET award for the Best International Act. He has won the award two years in a row.

The 2020 BET Awards were held in Los Angeles on Sunday evening June 28th. In his acceptance speech, Burna Boy urged Africans to strive to dominate every space. The artist also showed his support for the “Black Lives” matter movement by commenting on the killing of George Floyd.

The awards were hosted by comedian Amanda Seales at the Microsoft Theatre in L.A. This was the 20th BET wards, broadcasted live on CBS and its networks that include BET and BET Her. In Africa, the awards were broadcasted through DStv.

The show started with the host addressing racism and the protests. Most artists who spoke at the event also touched on protests and violence. Alicia Keys, the internationally known R&B singer, performed the song “Perfect Way to Die” as an attribute to the Black Lives Matter movement. A list of the names of black people killed by the police appeared as written words on the pavement of empty streets.

Hollywood reporters claim that Beyoncé received a Humanitarian Award at the event for showing support for the black lives matter movement by noting that it upholds the ideals their ancestor fought for.
