Johannes Radebe Joins Strictly Come Dancing Team

South African-born dancer Johannes Radebe is all set to make history on British television. He has been confirmed as one of the new hosts of the BBC’s popular entertainment show, Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC announced that Radebe will be joining television presenter Emma Willis and comedian Josh Widdicombe as part of a new presenting line-up for the show’s 24th season. This comes after long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman departed in October 2025.

For Radebe, who has become a familiar face on British television since joining the show in 2018, this appointment marks a significant career leap from professional dancer to presenter on one of the UK’s biggest programmes. He has been a part of the show for a while now, and this new role is a major milestone in his career. You can find more information about the UK’s biggest programmes on the BBC’s website

Breaking New Ground

Radebe was born in Zamdela, a township outside Sasolburg in the Free State. He first made a name for himself on South Africa’s version of Strictly Come Dancing before moving to the UK edition. Since then, he has partnered with celebrities including Catherine Tyldesley, Annabel Croft, and John Whaite. In 2021, he made history as part of the competition’s first all-male pairing with John Whaite.

Radebe has expressed his excitement about the new opportunity, saying, “This show has always stood for joy, heart, and togetherness, and I feel deeply honoured to now help carry that magic forward.” He added, “I’m ready – sequins, nerves and all.”

A New Era for Strictly Come Dancing

The BBC has not yet confirmed how hosting responsibilities will be divided among the new hosts. However, reports suggest that Widdicombe could take over Claudia Winkleman’s popular upstairs “Clauditorium” role, while Radebe may serve as a roaming backstage presenter. This new role makes Radebe the first South African-born presenter to host Strictly Come Dancing’s flagship programme, a milestone moment for local representation on British television.

BBC Chief Content Officer Kate Phillips has praised the chemistry of the new trio, saying they bring fresh energy to the long-running format. The judging panel, which includes Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton Du Beke, is set to return, alongside 15 professional dancers from last season and several newcomers.
