Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala has made a surprising revelation about his football loyalty. The star player used to be an avid supporter of Orlando Pirates, but now he swears he will remain a die-hard Amakhosi fan for the rest of his life.
Shabalala grew up in a household where everyone supported Orlando Pirates. He idolised Pirates forward Thembinkosi Lorch, and his family’s love for the team was evident. However, things took a dramatic turn when Shabalala joined Kaizer Chiefs. He had to switch his allegiance to his new team, and now he says he will “die a Chiefs fan”.
Shabalala recalls his first Soweto Derby experience, which took place around 2019 or 2020. He remembers how Chiefs were leading 1-0, only for Lorch to equalise after a pass from Ben Motshwari. At the time, he was still a Pirates supporter, but his loyalty has since shifted to Chiefs. He has even managed to convince his mother and siblings to join him in supporting the team, although his father remains stubbornly loyal to Pirates.
Orlando Pirates are still in the running for the Betway Premiership title, but they face a tough challenge in their final match against Orbit College. Pirates need to win to take the title, while Orbit are fighting to avoid relegation. The hosts have a strong incentive to win, as a victory could see them climb out of the relegation playoff slot. Pirates should expect a fierce battle from Orbit, who will be “scrapping for their lives”.
Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions, ending a 22-year wait for the title. The team has also shed its reputation for “bottling” under pressure. With the title secured, Arsenal can now focus on their Champions League final match against PSG on May 30th. Manager Mikel Arteta is likely to rest some of his key players in the final league match against Crystal Palace, as the team prepares for their upcoming European fixture.
