A look at the current Betway Premiership standings reveals that one spot is still up for grabs for the lucrative MTN8 next season. Currently, Mamelodi Sundowns are at the top of the log, while Polokwane City occupy seventh place. Every other team still has one match remaining in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
If the season were to end today, the MTN8 lineup for next season would be as follows:
Mamelodi Sundowns vs Durban City
Orlando Pirates vs Polokwane City
Kaizer Chiefs vs Golden Arrows
AmaZulu FC vs Sekhukhune United
All teams except Durban City are assured of their places in next season’s MTN8. However, Durban City can still be overtaken by either Stellenbosch FC or Siwelele FC, depending on the results of their upcoming matches.
The winner of the MTN8 will receive a substantial R10 million, while the other seven competing teams will each take home R1 million. Orlando Pirates are the defending MTN8 champions.

The rivalry between Soweto teams Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates is one of the fiercest in South African football. When the league fixtures are announced, fans of both teams eagerly anticipate the two derby matches. In the 29 completed PSL top-flight seasons since 1996/97, Orlando Pirates have finished higher in the standings on 15 occasions, while Kaizer Chiefs have claimed bragging rights on 14 occasions. However, with Orlando Pirates guaranteed to finish ahead of Kaizer Chiefs this season, the Buccaneers will now lead 16-14.
In the last nine seasons, including the current one, Orlando Pirates have finished ahead of Kaizer Chiefs on seven occasions. Both teams have been crowned league champions on four occasions each. Kaizer Chiefs won in 2003/04, 2004/05, 2012/13, and 2014/15, while Orlando Pirates claimed titles in 2000/02, 2002/03, 2010/11, and 2011/12. Mamelodi Sundowns lead the way with 16 titles.
