Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that tickets for the New Year’s Test between South Africa and England, scheduled for January 3-7, 2027, at Newlands, are currently sold out. However, additional general access tickets will be released at a later stage.
The announcement comes after CSA faced backlash on social media following the rapid sell-out of tickets. Many fans expressed frustration at not being given the opportunity to purchase tickets, with some questioning the legitimacy of the ticket allocation process.
According to CSA, a limited number of general access tickets were released for sale on their official ticketing website on Monday, and all available tickets were purchased much quicker than anticipated.
CSA’s strategic focus on sustaining and growing South African cricket includes the launch of South Africa Cricket Travel in December 2025, in partnership with Tourvest Destination Management. This initiative aims to bring fans closer to the game, with 12% of general access tickets allocated to international travel packages and 27% to domestic travel packages.
The allocation of additional general access tickets will be determined once final pitch allocation requirements have been confirmed. Further details will be communicated once the tickets are released.
In a first-of-its-kind offering, General Hospitality packages will be available through Newlands Stadium, providing cricket fans with the opportunity to enjoy general ticket access combined with a premium hospitality experience.
CSA has thanked fans for their support ahead of what promises to be an unforgettable atmosphere at the New Year’s Test. They attribute the increased demand for tickets to the growing interest in Test cricket, following the Proteas’ crowning as ICC World Test Champions for 2025.
