Orlando Pirates will need to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season, as they struggled to find goals when their wingers and midfielders were tightly marked. The Buccaneers’ strikers, Yanela Mbuthuma and Evidence Makgopa, failed to consistently find the back of the net. As a result, the team is expected to target a proven goal scorer during the upcoming transfer window.
One potential option is Junior Dion of Golden Arrows. The Ivorian forward had an impressive campaign, scoring 15 goals across all competitions. He could provide the clinical edge Pirates have lacked in front of goal.
Bucs legend Steve Lekoelea has urged the Buccaneers to sign at least one or two strikers ahead of the new season. Pirates could also face the difficult task of replacing key attacking stars Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis. The duo have contributed close to 40 goals and assists combined this season and are reportedly attracting strong interest abroad.
Mofokeng is believed to be valued at around R68 million, while Appollis could command a fee close to R40 million. Reports have also linked Pirates with Sphiwe Mahlangu from TS Galaxy as the club prepares for a possible squad rebuild.
The likes of Kabelo Dlamini and Bandile Shandu are expected to leave the club in the coming weeks. It remains to be seen how many new signings Orlando Pirates will make as they aim to dominate South African football next season.
