Orlando Pirates Update

Relebohile Mofokeng’s Time at Orlando Pirates May Be Coming to an End

Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng could be saying goodbye to the club soon, with his final two matches of the season potentially marking the end of his time with the Buccaneers. The Bafana Bafana star has had an outstanding campaign, scoring 10 league goals and registering eight assists, making him a frontrunner for the PSL Footballer of the Season award.

Mofokeng’s impressive performances have boosted his market value, and according to Afroscout, the 20-year-old is currently Africa’s highest-valued U23 player, with an estimated worth of R68.6 million. He has already represented South Africa at the 2025 AFCON and is expected to be part of the squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in June.

Mofokeng’s Future Uncertain as Pirates Face Durban City

With two league matches remaining, Mofokeng still has a chance to challenge for the Golden Boot if he scores four more goals before the end of the campaign. However, he faces the possibility of missing the Buccaneers’ final match of the season against Orbit College due to a potential suspension. A booking against Durban City would rule him out, potentially denying Orlando Pirates fans the chance to see him in what could be his final appearance for the club.

Other Players May Also Be Leaving Pirates

Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has hinted at retirement if the Buccaneers win the Betway Premiership title. “Only God knows. I’m always praying because my wish is the league. We will see, maybe this season it can happen,” said Makhaula. “It would be a dream come true. When you go to other teams, they don’t even try to fight for the league, but with big teams you must always compete for trophies. Big teams are always fighting for something.”

Orlando Pirates host Durban City at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon. The team still has a chance to win the treble, and Mofokeng and his teammates will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about.
