The starting lineups for the upcoming match are: Durban City – Asare, Jalai, Mkhize, Ncanana, Mashego, Nodada, Jurgens, Poggenpoel, Mokwena, Lubumba, Kamatuka, and Orlando Pirates – Chaine, Sebelebele, Seema, Sibisi, Hotto, Selepe, Mbatha, Appollis, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng, Mbuthuma.
After TS Galaxy’s shocking 3-2 win over Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates are now just one victory away from completing a remarkable turnaround to claim the Betway Premiership title. For months, Sundowns seemed destined to win the league, but Galaxy’s win has reopened the race.
Orlando Pirates will face Durban City at Orlando Stadium, knowing a win will bring them their first league title since the 2011/12 season. The Buccaneers are in great shape, unbeaten in their last 11 league matches and having built momentum at the right time. Recent wins over Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC have strengthened the squad’s belief that the title is within reach.
The Sea Robbers will take confidence from their earlier meeting against Durban City, which they won 2-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in November, thanks to goals from Evidence Makgopa and Patrick Maswanganyi. Across the campaign, Orlando Pirates have suffered only three league defeats, collecting 20 victories and maintaining pressure on Sundowns throughout the season.
Durban City, on the other hand, have mixed momentum. They recently won the 2026 Nedbank Cup by defeating TS Galaxy, but their league form has dipped badly in recent weeks. The visitors are winless in their last six Betway Premiership matches and were held to a goalless draw by Stellenbosch FC in their latest outing.
Despite their poor league form, Durban City can still finish in the top eight and could climb as high as sixth place with a positive result. This combination of cup confidence and league pressure may make them dangerous opponents, despite Orlando Pirates being overwhelming favourites.
With Orlando Stadium expected to be packed for one of the club’s biggest domestic matches in over a decade, Orlando Pirates are on the edge of ending a league drought that has haunted the club for years.
