Durban City Star Drops Bombshell Before Pirates Clash

Orlando Pirates are under pressure to win their upcoming match on Saturday, as a victory would bring them closer to securing their first league title since the 2011/12 season. The team is also chasing a potential domestic treble, which adds to the emotional stakes of the game in Soweto.

Durban City, on the other hand, has different but still significant stakes. As the newly crowned Nedbank Cup champions, they are currently seventh on the table and fighting to secure a top-eight finish. If they win against Pirates, they could even move up to sixth place as the season nears its end.

Pressure Mounts for Orlando Pirates

Thabo Nodada, a player for Durban City, expects a hostile atmosphere at the Orlando Stadium. He believes the environment could be one of the toughest his team has faced this season. Nodada mentioned that the stadium is sold out, which he found surprising, especially given that Durban City is now involved in the title race narrative.

“We’re not going to enjoy that game, we’re not,” Nodada said during the club’s Nedbank Cup celebrations. “I think they said the stadium is sold out on a Tuesday.” He seemed stunned by the scale of the occasion, questioning why his team is in this position. “Look, to be even in the position we are in, you know, why us? Why do you come from a Nedbank Cup final, and then you have a chance to decide something that’s so far out of your reach, you know?”

Orlando Pirates Seek to Capitalise on Momentum

Despite the pressure, Nodada insisted that Durban City will approach the game with confidence. “It’s 90 minutes. We will go there, we will do our best. If our best is better than their best, then good luck to them,” he said. Orlando Pirates are favourites to win, having beaten Durban City 2-0 earlier in the season with goals from Evidence Makgopa and Patrick Maswanganyi.

The Buccaneers are on a strong run, with 11 unbeaten league matches. However, with Durban City fresh from their Nedbank Cup victory, Pirates know they will not have an easy path to ending their long wait for league glory.
