Orlando Pirates are reportedly close to signing one of their top transfer targets, according to local reports.
Orlando Pirates Edging Closer to Signing Matuludi
According to KickOff, the Buccaneers have made contact with Polokwane City to finalise a deal for Thabang Matuludi. This is not the first time Orlando Pirates have attempted to sign the 27-year-old defender, as they tried to lure him over last season. Matuludi has earned two caps for Bafana and has an outside chance of making the 2026 World Cup squad. A source has confirmed that negotiations are at an advanced stage, saying “Matuludi is expected to be a Pirates player next season”.
Can Orlando Pirates End Their Title Drought?
Following Sundowns’ 3-2 defeat at TS Galaxy, Orlando Pirates need four points from their remaining two fixtures to guarantee the title. They could also win the title with three points, but four points would make it certain. The Buccaneers currently have 65 points, while Sundowns have 68 points. To guarantee the title, Pirates need to earn four more points from their remaining fixtures. Even three points might be enough, provided they do not lose by more than seven goals in the other fixture, given their current goal difference of +44 compared to Sundowns’ +36.
Orlando Pirates fans will have to wait until 23 May for the title to be officially confirmed. The Buccaneers’ next match is a home clash with Durban City on 16 May.
