Veteran radio broadcaster Bob Mabena dies at the age of 51. The radio presenter, whose career spanned more than 2 decades, has left people shocked by his untimely death.
He was born on 26 July in 1969.
The popular radio personality began his media career in 1989 at Radio BOP. He went on to work for institutions such as Metro FM, Heart FM, SABC, and 947.
He was the group head of programming at MSG. His final home in his career was Power FM.
The loss of the icon comes as a shock to many people who believe that he has gone too soon. He has been called the master of the mic, and rightly so.
In an Instagram post yesterday, Bob wrote,
“Gather ye Rose-buds while ye may, Old Time is still a-flying: And this same flower that smiles to day, To morrow will be …”.
Carpe Diem!!!!
Carpe diem is a Latin phrase that urges people to make the most of the present time and give little thought to the future.
One Twitter user believes that judging by the post, Mabena knew that he was leaving the world.
“I always knew that people know when they are about to leave us. This is Bra Bob’s last post 1 day ago on IG.”
The opposition party, the Economic Freedom Fighters, better known by their acronym EFF, paid tribute to the fallen giant of the radio.
News anchor Cathy Mohlahlana sent her condolences to Mabena’s family.
Power 98.7 described him as an icon whose life “will transcend space and time.”

Professor Thuli Madonsela, who previously served as the Public Protector, expressed her sadness at the passing of the giant.
2020 should be remembered as the year when legends passed on to the next world. South Africa has lost a great personality in the media sector.
