Mamelodi Sundowns’ boss, Miguel Cardoso, believes that the Premier Soccer League (PSL) organisers have inadvertently aided Orlando Pirates in their quest to dethrone his team.
## Cardoso Blames Congested Fixture Schedule
Cardoso expressed his concerns about his team’s congested fixture schedule, which he thinks will give Orlando Pirates an upper hand in the title race. The Portuguese coach pointed out that his players have been involved in a packed calendar over the last 21 days. “I know people say excuses, excuses, but I invite anyone to really look at the calendar that these boys [Sundowns players] have been involved in in the last 21 days. We were not beaten by whoever, but by the calendar,” Cardoso said after his side lost 3-2 to TS Galaxy on Wednesday evening.
## Orlando Pirates on the Brink of Title Glory
Following Sundowns’ defeat, Orlando Pirates are now in a strong position to claim their first Betway Premiership title in 14 years. With two games to play, Pirates have 65 points, while Sundowns have 68 points. If Pirates can accumulate four more points from their remaining fixtures, they will secure the title. Even three points might be sufficient, provided they don’t suffer a heavy defeat in their other fixture. Pirates currently have a goal difference of +44, while Sundowns have a goal difference of +36. Their next match is against Durban City at home.
## Cardoso’s Frustration with the PSL Schedule
Cardoso’s comments suggest that he feels the PSL has rolled out the red carpet for Orlando Pirates. He lamented his side’s fixture schedule, which he believes has put them at a disadvantage. Listen to Cardoso’s full comments via Sowetan.
