Freelance Writing Opportunities at ‘The South African’

The South African website is expanding its editorial team and currently has several exciting opportunities for freelance journalists.

As a writer and journalist for The South African, your primary responsibilities will include covering the latest developments in news, lifestyle, sport, and finance, as well as producing daily articles for the publication. This role offers a chance to build your writing, editing, and digital media portfolio.

What We’re Looking For

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • a degree or similar qualification in journalism;
  • at least two years of online writing experience for a news publisher;
  • your own laptop and a stable internet/WiFi connection;
  • WordPress experience, although not essential, is a definite advantage;
  • excellent writing skills;
  • a contact list of sources and newsmakers;
  • a good understanding of search engine optimisation (SEO) principles;
  • the ability to work independently and communicate effectively;
  • knowledge of social media platforms and their use;
  • a clear grasp of the South African context, including cultural nuances; and
  • proficiency in analytics tools, which is desirable.

Position: Freelance writer/journalist (part-time or full-time)

Reporting to: Freelance Army Coordinator

Location: Remote

Remuneration: Our payment structure is based on a page view model. Earnings are calculated and paid weekly, based on the total page views your published articles generate during that week.
