Mamelodi Sundowns face Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have dealt a significant blow to Orlando Pirates’ title aspirations this season. The Pirates’ chances have been hindered, and their rivals are now facing a challenging situation of their own.

Several key Kaizer Chiefs players, including Lebohang Maboe, Flavio Silva, Mfundo Vilakazi, Siphesihle Ndlovu, and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, are one booking away from suspension. With only four matches left in the season, this is a significant concern for the team. Their next match is against leaders Sundowns on Wednesday, 6 May at 19:30, and it will be broadcast on DStv channel 202.

End of Season Fixtures and Player Contracts

The remaining Kaizer Chiefs fixtures will be crucial in determining the team’s final standing. Meanwhile, there are also concerns about player contracts, with as many as seven senior players set to expire in June. These players include Gaston Sirino, Khanyisa Mayo, Zitha Kwinika, Bruce Bvuma, Dillan Solomons, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, and Pule Mmodi. While Mayo and Mmodi have shown promise, the other five players are likely to leave the team.

Former Players’ Careers

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Knowledge Musona is now playing for Scotland FC in Zimbabwe. The 35-year-old was once earning around R18.85 million per year without bonuses, according to the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. As recently as 2025, Musona was reportedly earning R10 million annually, even in the latter stages of his career in the Gulf region. Musona has had a distinguished career since leaving Kaizer Chiefs in 2012, with stints in Germany, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia, and has scored 27 goals in 54 appearances for Zimbabwe.
