The battle for the top spot in the SA Schools First XV rankings is heating up, with the leading teams now separated by a hair’s breadth.
Hoërskool Stellenberg is still in the lead, according to the latest SA schools First XV rankings. However, the traditional powerhouses are closing in fast, with several teams now within striking distance of the top spot.
Paarl Gimnasium is just a fraction of a point behind the leaders, while Paul Roos Gymnasium is also firmly in contention, only a point adrift. There have been significant shifts throughout the top 20, with some teams moving up and others sliding down.
Paarl Gimnasium is now just 0.151 points behind log leaders Stellenberg, who are on 21.740 points. Paarl Gim occupies second place with 21.589 points.
Paul Roos Gymnasium is close behind in third place with 20.078 points, keeping the pressure on the top two. It’s worth noting that both Paarl Gim and Paul Roos have played one match fewer than Stellenberg, which gives them a chance to overtake the leaders if they win their games in hand.
Grey College has reclaimed fourth place, leapfrogging Hoërskool Garsfontein, who drop to fifth. Affies have also made upward progress, climbing from seventh to sixth position.
Paarl Boys’ High School, Hilton College, Maritzburg College, and Hoërskool Oakdale complete the top 10. Northwood School has dropped out of the top 10, with Maritzburg College moving into the elite bracket.
Northwood slips from 10th to 11th, while Hoërskool Monument falls one place to 12th. Jeppe High School for Boys has dropped out of the top 20, with Graeme College moving into 19th position.
The remainder of the top 20 includes Outeniqua High School, Rondebosch Boys’ High School, Michaelhouse, Westville Boys’ High School, Durban High School, Kearsney College, and Hoërskool Waterkloof. Kearsney College has impressed, maintaining a strong position despite having played fewer matches than most of their rivals.
