Orlando Pirates are reportedly interested in signing Junior Sede Dion, the top scorer for Golden Arrows, for the upcoming season. The Ivorian forward has been in exceptional form, netting 14 goals in the league so far.
The Buccaneers have struggled to find consistency in their strikers this season. With this in mind, they might be looking to bring in an established goalscorer like Dion. According to Soccer Laduma
, Pirates are monitoring the Arrows striker’s progress, having had an impressive season.A source close to the club confirmed that there has been interest in Dion. “It’s true, there has been interest in Dion after the season he has had,” the source said. “Pirates are one of the clubs believed to be monitoring him closely. When you score that many goals in the PSL, especially in a team like Arrows where chances can sometimes be limited, people will notice you.”
The source added that Dion has done exceptionally well this season. There are clubs that feel he can achieve even more with stronger attacking players around him.
Orlando Pirates currently have Evidence Makgopa, Andre de Jong, Yanela Mbuthuma, and Boitumelo Radiopane as strikers. However, none of them have consistently found the net. Tshegotsa Mabasa was loaned to Stellenbosch FC mid-season and seems unlikely to return to Pirates next season.
Dion’s potential move to Mayfair could be a challenging one. Many strikers who have moved from smaller teams to the big three have struggled to replicate their form. Exceptions include Peter Shalulile and Iqraam Rayners.
If Orlando Pirates decide to bring in another striker, they will likely have to let go of one of their current forwards.
The question remains whether Dion would be a good fit for Orlando Pirates. With his impressive form this season, it’s clear that he has the skills to make an impact. However, adapting to a new team and playing style can be a challenge.
