Orlando Pirates on Brink of Historic Title
Orlando Pirates fans are ecstatic as their team inches closer to clinching the Betway Premiership title. However, they might have to wait a bit longer to celebrate.
Pirates on the Cusp of Glory
Following Sundowns’ 3-2 loss to TS Galaxy on Wednesday, Pirates now require just four points from their two remaining matches to mathematically seal the title. Even three points could suffice, but four would guarantee it. The Brazilians are currently on 68 points, while Pirates have 65 points with two games left to play. A first league crown since 2012 is within their grasp.
Pirates’ goal difference stands at +44, compared to Sundowns’ +36. Given their impressive form, a heavy defeat is highly unlikely; their three league losses this season have all been by a single goal.
Road to Glory
Sea Robbers fans will have to wait until May 23rd for the title to be officially confirmed. Their next match is against Durban City at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday, May 16th.
Here are Pirates’ remaining fixtures:
- Saturday, 16 May vs Durban City, Orlando Stadium – 15:00
- Saturday, 23 May vs Orbit College, Royal Bafokeng Stadium – 15:00
Sundowns Boss Cardoso Weighs In
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed concerns about his side’s congested fixture schedule, which he believes will aid Pirates in securing their first league crown in 14 years.
