Former Orlando Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba has been discussing the different coaching styles of Jose Riveiro and Abdeslam Ouaddou. Both coaches have enjoyed success in their first seasons with the Buccaneers.
Riveiro had a great debut season, winning two trophies, and followed that up with more success in his second season. His last season with the team saw them win the MTN8 and reach the CAF Champions League semi-final.
Ouaddou, on the other hand, has already won two trophies in his debut season and is close to completing a treble. Gcaba feels that the Buccaneers are playing a more direct style of football under the Moroccan coach.
Orlando Pirates’ Style of Play Under Ouaddou
Ayanda Gcaba shared his thoughts on the team’s style of play, saying, “For me, it’s their way of playing, this season they were more different than previous seasons. This season we had a lot of attacking players, who are direct, nice combination plays.” He made these comments in an interview with Gagasi FM Sport.
Gcaba also praised the team’s defence, particularly goalkeeper Sipho Chaine. “They’ve improved a lot. Chaine now has 19 clean-sheets, he could go to 20. So it’s a confidence-booster that at least we’re not conceding too many goals, we’re scoring goals and we’re winning games; that on its own plays a big part,” he added.
Under Ouaddou, the Buccaneers have been solid defensively, conceding just 12 goals all season, and are on their way to winning their first league title in 14 years.
Assessing the Buccaneers’ Chances
Ouaddou’s impact on the team has been significant, and Gcaba’s comments highlight the difference he has made. The Buccaneers are looking strong, and their fans will be hoping they can bring home the league title.
