Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has indicated that a meeting with the club’s management is on the cards to discuss his future, despite the team’s impressive treble win. Ouaddou led the Buccaneers to three trophies this season, a feat that has never been achieved by a Pirates coach in their first season.
The Moroccan coach guided his team to a 2-0 win over Orbit College on Saturday in Mbombela, and after the match, he confirmed that he would be sitting down with the management to discuss the way forward. Ouaddou expressed his exhaustion, stating that leading a big team like Orlando Pirates is a difficult task. “I work with passion, I work with love and it’s difficult to lead such a big team like Orlando Pirates,” he said. “It was a very difficult season and I’m tired, I’m very very tired,” he told SABC Sport.
Despite the team’s success, Ouaddou’s future at the club remains uncertain. He is not the first coach to face this situation, as Dutch coach Ruud Krol was shown the door in 2011 after securing the club’s first ever treble. Ouaddou has done well for Pirates in his first season in charge, and it is likely that he will keep his job next season. Failure to win the league would have likely forced him to step down.
Ouaddou needs to recharge and find the energy to continue leading the team. “I need energy, I need power. Without energy, it will be difficult to continue,” he said. The club’s management will likely take his contributions into consideration when making a decision about his future. A meeting between Ouaddou and the management will determine what happens next season.
Orlando Pirates’ success this season is a testament to Ouaddou’s coaching abilities. The team’s performance under his guidance has been impressive, and it is likely that he will be given the opportunity to continue leading the team. The future of the club is uncertain, but one thing is clear: Ouaddou has made a significant impact on the team, and his contributions will be taken into consideration when making decisions about his future.
