Xbox Series X|S Record Record-breaking with 1.4 Million Units Sold

Xbox Series X and S set the record as Microsoft’s biggest console launch to date.

According to VGChartz, Xbox Series X and S sold an estimated 1.2 to 1.4 million units on launch day, the US being the biggest market for the launch, with Europe following closely behind it.

The Xbox Series X/S numbers are particularly impressive considering the shortage of consoles stock on launch day due to delays caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“We know that not everyone was able to get an Xbox Series X/S immediately and are working tirelessly with our partners around the world to bring as many new consoles to as many of you as possible over time and encourage you to check in with your local retailers directly for more details on availability in your market.” – Liz Hamren.

The Xbox Series X as no surprise was the popular version of the platform, selling an estimate between 800,000 and 925,000 units, while the Xbox Series S is reported to have sold between 400,000 and 475,000 units.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox who has been the driving force behind all the success of the consoles for years, could not wait to celebrate and to thank the fans.

“Thank you for supporting the largest launch in Xbox history. In 24 hrs more new consoles sold, in more countries, than ever before. We’re working with retail to resupply as quickly as possible. You continue to show us the connective power of play is more important than ever.”

Recently Xbox has apologized for the shortages of stock and promised that new units would be available soon. Xbox is not the only console having stock problems amidst this pandemic year; Sony Playstation 5 is still facing the same problem of shortages.

Figures about the sales number of Microsoft new consoles in South Africa have not been released yet; it will be no surprise if it will surpass previous figures.
