Nqobile Khwezi, a contestant on Tropika Island Of Treasure, is on a mission to discover whether Bali, known as the “Island of the Gods”, has the perfect blend of serenity and adventure to host the next season.
Khwezi shares her personal connection to Bali, reveals her top travel tips, and explains why she thinks this Indonesian paradise is an ideal contender for the show.
As someone who’s had the opportunity to travel extensively, Khwezi has a few favourite destinations that stand out. One of them is Milan, Italy, which she loves for its unique combination of fashion, culture, and delicious food. The city’s vibe resonates with her lifestyle, making it a memorable experience. However, she’s also drawn to island getaways, where she can unwind and enjoy the ocean’s tranquility. Bali holds a special place in her heart, partly due to its feature in Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat Pray Love
, a book that inspired her to explore the island’s spiritual and self-discovery aspects.Khwezi recently visited Bali with Zanele Potelwa in search of the next Island of Treasure. She believes Bali is an excellent choice for a reality show like this, thanks to its diverse landscapes, ranging from stunning beaches to lush jungles and picturesque rice fields. The island offers a mix of excitement and relaxation, allowing contestants to step out of their comfort zones while capturing breathtaking moments. The vibrant energy of Bali translates well on screen, making it an ideal setting for the show.

Bali has become a popular destination for South Africans, and Khwezi thinks it’s because the island offers an unbeatable combination of affordability, luxury, and experiences. The warm hospitality, rich culture, and mouth-watering cuisine make it an attractive choice. Whether you’re looking to unwind or be adventurous, Bali has something for everyone, making it a valuable experience for visitors.
Khwezi found visiting Bali’s temples to be a grounding experience, where she could appreciate the island’s spirituality and respect for tradition. The daily offerings and architectural beauty of the temples encouraged her to slow down and be present. This experience resonated with the essence of Eat Pray Love, allowing her to reconnect with herself in a meaningful way.
If Khwezi had just 24 hours to help a friend experience Bali, she’d plan a sunrise breakfast overlooking the rice fields, followed by a temple visit to soak up the culture. The afternoon would feature an adrenaline-packed activity like an ATV ride or ziplining, while lunch would be at a beachside restaurant with a stunning ocean view. The day would end with a relaxing evening at a beach club, watching the breathtaking Bali sunset.
Khwezi shares a few valuable travel tips, including packing versatile outfits to save space, downloading offline maps, and having key bookings saved on your phone. She also advises planning must-do activities while leaving room for spontaneity, as some of the best experiences often arise unexpectedly. Comfort is key, especially when exploring a new destination.
Khwezi’s experience on Tropika Island of Treasure in Zanzibar in 2024 was a defining moment for her. The show pushed her mentally and physically, forcing her to adapt quickly in high-pressure situations. The challenges were intense but rewarding, and the connections she made along the way have had a lasting impact.
Auditions for the new season of Tropika Island of Treasure are now open. Khwezi’s advice for contestants is to be genuine and showcase their personality, energy, and unique strengths. Don’t be afraid to stand out and keep your entry video engaging, making it memorable for the judges.
Auditions now open: Think you have what it takes to compete? Upload your audition tape to TikTok, Facebook, X, or Instagram, tagging @MyTropika and using the hashtag #Tropika. Auditions are open until 5 May 2026.
