Pirates’ Mofokeng: Africa’s Priciest at R68.6m

According to Afroscout, Orlando Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng holds the continent’s most-expensive price value, surpassing youngsters from Senegal and Nigeria.

African Football’s Most Valuable Players

Senegal’s Mamadou Lamine Camara and Nigeria’s Onuche Ogbelu are both valued at approximately R58.8 million, closely following Mofokeng on the list. Further down, Mali’s Seydou Dembele comes in at around R39.2 million, while Moroccan talent Fouad Zahouani is valued at R35 million.

Rise To The Top

Before the season kicked off, Orlando Pirates made it clear they would not let Relebohile Mofokeng go, turning down strong interest from abroad. Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq offered around R26.9 million, MLS outfit Minnesota United pushed up to R34.9 million, while Russian club Akron Tolyatti tabled a R26 million bid, all of which were rejected without hesitation.

Now, that decision looks fully justified. The Sharpeville-born attacker is enjoying the best football of his young career. Known to fans as President Yama2K, the 21-year-old has delivered nine goals and six assists in the Betway Premiership, making him the club’s leading scorer in the competition.

Across all competitions, Mofokeng has hit 20 goal contributions this season, including his first professional hat-trick in a dominant 6–0 win over TS Galaxy. His consistency has also been recognised with back-to-back Premier Soccer League Player of the Month awards for February and March.

His recent form has taken things to another level, with five goals in two matches, six Man of the Match awards, and even a perfect 10.0 Sofascore rating. At this rate, with a Player of the Season award firmly within reach, it’s becoming increasingly clear that a move overseas is no longer a question of if, but when.

What’s Next For Mofokeng

Orlando Pirates will likely face a tough battle to keep their star player, as his impressive performances have caught the attention of top clubs around the world. It remains to be seen where Mofokeng will end up next season, but one thing is certain – he has a bright future ahead of him.
