Kaizer Chiefs are on the hunt for a new head coach as the current co-coaches, Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, are set to leave the club in the coming weeks. This development comes after the duo took over the reins from Nasreddine Nabi in September, following the Tunisian’s suspension. Ben Youssef and Kaze were initially assistant coaches but were promoted to head coaches in October after the club parted ways with Nabi.
The primary objectives for Ben Youssef and Kaze were to secure at least one trophy or a spot in the CAF Champions League. With four league matches remaining, Kaizer Chiefs still have a chance to clinch a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup, although the Champions League positions are already filled. Unfortunately, the team will end the season without any silverware, having been eliminated from both the CAF Confederation Cup and the Nedbank Cup in February, a disappointing turn of events considering they won the Nedbank Cup last season.
Top Contenders for the Kaizer Chiefs Coaching Job
Several candidates are in the running for the Kaizer Chiefs coaching position. One notable contender is Pitso Mosimane, also known as Jingles, who has expressed interest in coaching the Soweto giants in the past. Having been without a coaching position since May last year, this opportunity could be a perfect fit for the 62-year-old coach.
Another potential candidate is Manqoba Mngqithi, the former coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, who boasts extensive experience in the PSL. Although he has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs in recent weeks, it remains to be seen if he would be willing to leave his current position at Golden Arrows for the opportunity to coach the Amakhosi.
Marcel Koller is also a viable option for the Naturena-based side, particularly given his experience with CAF Champions League victories. If Kaizer Chiefs aim to dominate in Africa, they should consider hiring the 65-year-old mentor, who recently parted ways with Al Ahly.
